Due to overwhelming interest there is now a cut off date to sign up for the New Jersey auditions, as well as a pre-screening process. The Jersey auditions will be invitation only. Applications need to be sent in by Jan. 17.

HOW TO SIGN UP

WHAT TO PREPARE

  • 30-60 seconds of a broadway style song that you feel best shows off your vocal talents and personality. A speaker will be provided. (It is unlikely, but we might ask you to sing a second song, preferably of a different style than the first.)

  • 30-60 seconds of a monologue in the style of one of the 5 shows that we are producing this season. (Except Boise auditionees)

  • A resume and headshot that you will need to bring to the audition. (Especially Boise auditionees ;) )

WHAT TO EXPECT (Weber State University)

  • This audition is going to be for several theaters in the surrounding areas. This means that you will be auditioning in front of several different theater companies, not just Starlight.

  • There will be an accompanist provided. Auditioning with sheet music is encouraged, but not required. There will also be a speaker set up. (Please make sure that your song is downloaded as we do not always have reliable service or internet.)

  • Your audition will be timed. You have 1 minute each for your song and monologue.

  • There will be a dance call taught by Francesca, who is organizing the auditions, and happens to be a Starlight alum.

  • After the dance call, the theaters have their separate call backs. We will let anyone that we wish to see at call backs know as soon as possible. Here we will talk to everyone about what Starlight is all about and what you can typically expect if you are hired. We like to use this time to answer any questions that you might have and get to know your personalities, as well as let you get to know ours a little better, too.

  • Following that, we will have cold read callbacks.

  • Once the entire audition process is concluded (depending on time), we would love to chat and answer any more questions. Starlight Mountain Theatre is a summer stock theater with close living and working quarters. This means that we aren’t just looking for talented performers, but also talented performers that we feel will be able to live and work well together.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • We hold open auditions, meaning that some of your fellow auditionees will be in the room with you. Depending on the number of auditionees in a location, you may be asked to sign up for a specific time slot.

  • You will be called up by your name when we are ready for you. You will hand your device to Ryan, our technical director. He will give you a sound check. (Please make sure that your song is downloaded as we do not always have reliable service or internet.) We will then ask you to slate and perform your piece(s). Our SM, Lina, will be recording as well as timing your piece(s). She will indicate when your time is up.

  • Once the auditionees have finished, we will hold our dance call. Again, depending on the number of auditionees at a location, the dance call might not immediately follow your time slot.

  • After we have seen everyone dance, we will talk to everyone about what Starlight is all about and what you can typically expect if you are hired. We like to use this time to answer any questions that you might have and get to know your personalities, as well as let you get to know ours a little better, too.

  • Following that, we will have our invitation only, cold read callbacks. We will ask anyone to stay that we would like to see read. If you are not asked to stay for callbacks, you will be welcome to leave but not required.
